Chef in our Class!

As you all already know, we are doing a topic which is related to food and the children were interested in the area of where food is made (the kitchen), we thought it would be an interesting experience for the children. On the 16th of March, we will be welcoming Chef Marco who works in a very popular and elegant hotel which is the Radisson Hotel.
During his session in class, Chef Marco will be showing and helping the children learn some basic safety techniques such as chopping the vegetables, what to do if the kitchen is on fire and some others. He will also show the children a slideshow in which he will be portraying some of the foods he prepares at the hotel which are both healthy and delicious. After the PowerPoint presentation, the children will choose at least two of the meals shown to them and with the help of Chef Marco, we will be doing them in class. We will inform you of the chosen meals and their ingredients later on together with the date of when the cooking will be done.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Ms Semira.

Cooking Activity: Fruit Pancakes

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

During this week, we will be conducting a cooking activity. The children themselves came up with the idea of making a healthy version of pancakes and instead of using unhealthy spreads we will be using fresh fruits. During this cooking activity, the children will be able to improve different skills including their spatial ability and fine-motor skills which improve hand-eye coordination.

This is the ingredients list:
Flour, eggs, milk, vanilla extract, strawberries, blueberries and pineapples.
Please notify us if any of the above ingredients are allergic to your child.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Ms Semira.

Next Theme: Exploring and Investigating Food

Dear Parent and Guardians,

We have been observing the children and noticed that they have been talking about food lately, most especially during their free play. Thus, we have conducted three different provocations as to make sure that the children are interested in such a theme and they were surely worth every second!

Due to having such interest today we started with the mind map of the children. As you can see the children mentioned some unhealthy foods which means that we will be focusing on learning the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods. Obviously, we will be talking about a lot of delicious foods and so it is a must to cook at least a healthy meal once a week. The choice of meals will be discussed with the children and you will be informed on all of the ingredients these meals will include due to any allergies.
Some children also mentioned some close family members and this will help us understand that cooking and eating together is a very social event. As you already know, we encourage social interaction during lunch since this helps the children in various ways including building relationships amongst themselves and help us educators getting to know them better.
Last but not least, we will be doing various physical activities as to encourage the children adopt a healthier lifestyle. Apart from going out during break times and physical education we will be exploring the outdoors of the school through different physical activities.

We would like to ask you if you have any ideas on such a topic and maybe give us a more clear vision regarding your child when it comes to food and healthy lifestyle. If you think that you can come and conduct an interesting activity for the children during the upcoming weeks, we would gladly welcome you. Some of the activities that you can conduct with the children could be: doing a cooking activity, do physical activities with them and also talking to them about food amongst others.

Thank you for your constant cooperation!
Ms Semira.
